Trip to Vulpro, South Africa
On the 17th of February, Shannen and I, along with Ryan – our toy vulture mascot, began our trip to South Africa to work as volunteers for the charity Vulpro. We spent just under 2 weeks with the charity, seeing first hand the problems that vultures face in the wild on a day-to-day basis, this allowed us to broaden our knowledge of these issues.
It also helped us work out what to use the money we raised on our sponsored walk up Snowdon for (see Sponsored walk up Snowdon). Every vulture brought to Vulpro is tested for lead poisoning. The kits used to test them are expensive. One kit can test 48 vultures, so we decided to use the money raised to purchase two lead testing kits. This will help Vulpro continue their research.
