Meet the Birds

Gauntlet is home to 13 different species of Owl plus our very special hybrid owl (a cross between a Malaysian Wood Owl and a Great Grey Owl). These silent hunters can be seen during our daily demonstrations and our special evening events like Owls by Moonlight and An Evening with Owls and Friends!

We have six species of vultures at Gauntlet Birds of Prey, from the African White-backed Vulture of Sub-Saharan Africa to the Turkey Vulture found in North and South America. Our vultures are the cheekiest of all the birds at the park.

Our Falcon family is made up of four species, from the powerful Gyr/Saker Falcon to the unmistakable British ‘Common Kestrel’. During our live shows (and routine exercises for the Falcons) – we swing the lure to show spectators just how powerful and fast this species really are. It’s an amazing sight to see!

Thanks to Gauntlet’s brilliant Kites the 3.00pm flying display is one of the most talked about birds of prey demonstrations in the UK. The Kite team consists of a mixture of Red and Black Kites, there are also a few cheekier ones, who often like to steal the presenter’s hat and glasses during demonstrations!

Here at Gauntlet we have five species of Hawks and Buzzards. If you want to get a feel for falconry, we take you out for a hawk walk in a number of our birds of prey experiences. You’ll get to handle some of our hawks and see them in action – working together and flying free!

From our Marabou Storks, Pink-backed Pelicans and White Storks to our speedy Red-legged Seriemas, clever Caracaras and the super intelligent Ravens – our ‘unusual’ team is packed full of characters!

Meet our cheeky Meerkats Pumba and Dave and the rest of the Meerkat mob. Our bossy goats who love nothing more than a fuss and a bag of food and our fun loving ferrets who love a tickle when they’re not sleeping!
